Pizza
Blistered, properly baked bases that come out of the kitchen looking like they should. Regulars order them alongside a cold beer and rarely change their mind.
South Parade, Whitley Bay
We serve fresh and locally sourced Italian style food, from blistered pizza and homemade soup to the Sunday carvery, with a cocktail list the bar is quietly proud of.
Welcome to The Glasshouse
A room that goes dark and gold when the sun drops, a kitchen that cooks Italian properly, and a bar that will make you something off menu if you ask nicely.

The room
Velvet booths, marble tables, gold framed mirrors and blossom hanging from the ceiling. It is the sort of room that makes a midweek dinner feel like you made an effort, without ever asking you to.
Sit inside under the chandeliers, or take a table out on South Parade when the weather behaves. The sea is a two minute walk away, which is roughly the right distance for a walk before pudding.
The kitchen
The menu moves with what is good and what is in, so this is a taste of what regulars keep coming back for rather than the full list. Ring us and we will tell you what is on tonight.
Blistered, properly baked bases that come out of the kitchen looking like they should. Regulars order them alongside a cold beer and rarely change their mind.
Carbonara and tagliatelle among them, cooked the way you would want it, with extra cheese on the side if that is your sort of thing.
Fillet cooked to where you asked for it, peppercorn sauce served on the side, finished with pea shoots. One of the reasons people book rather than wander in.
Raz makes the minestrone, and the reviews keep saying the same thing about it: that it tastes like proper home cooking rather than something out of a tin.
An Italian kitchen that also does a Sunday carvery. It should not work quite as neatly as it does, and the regulars swear by it.
Cured meats with parmesan and pea shoots, mushroom bruschetta, potato skins, garlic bread. The small plates get named in the reviews as often as the mains.

Fillet Rossini cooked medium to rare, or a grilled fillet cooked to where you asked for it. Peppercorn sauce on the side, both finished with pea shoots. It is the night the regulars book ahead for.
Ring to bookThe bar
The cocktail menu is long and it is made properly. Martinis, the Porn Star that gets named in the reviews more than anything else on the list, and whatever the bar can put together if you tell them what you like.
There is beer and a wine list too, and nobody will mind if you come in for a drink and stay for the pizza. That happens most nights.

“Absolutely love the food here! We’ve tried many dishes from the menu including the steak night, pizzas, pasta and more, everything has been fantastic. The homemade soup is especially delicious and tastes just like home cooking, compliments to Raz who makes it! Scarlet has looked after us many times and always welcomes us with a smile.”

“From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like family. It has been one of the best nights of our 2 week trip around England to celebrate our 25-year anniversary. When we told the waitress about our anniversary, she came out with drinks and dessert and made us stand up for a round of applause from the guests. What a wonderful experience.”

“We’d been meaning to check the glasshouse out for a while as we’d heard good feedback about it... it didn’t disappoint us. All great tasting, good portion sizes, and fast efficient service! Would definitely recommend the food.”
